"When the artist is 'there' the image s/he has discovered appears".

Mihaly Csikzentmihalyi (1996)

Woody's contemporary paintings function as organic memories in a garden of colorful human emotions; spontaneous reactions to color and movement with an array of passions reflecting our collective imagination.

Derivatives of the abstract expressionist action art movement, Woody paintings are not just pictures, they are expressive events with their power derived from creating paintings. These paintings communicate a message to the viewer, they are beautiful, functional and fundamentally positioned to grow in value over time.

Woody's paintings are owned by informed luminaries, visionaries and eclectic art collectors, he is now available for select commission assignments.

'It is not what you see,

it's what you're looking for that matters most.

Many of these paintings were created over three decades ago and had not previously been presented publicly.

A Secret Is Revealed

James e. Woody, one of the world's first proclaimed and recognized African-American Transpersonal Abstract Expressionist Artist.

"Art is life and life is sacred. I only seek to exemplify the magic inside of each of us, where our memories meet our dreams."

James e. Woody 1988

Woody's began writing a manifesto on Transpersonal Art in 1988. Many of his concepts are derivatives of the Futurist, DaDa and Action Art Movements. His "new art" depicts new forms of cognition and depths of feeling; a catalyst for helping others discover their self empowered inner wisdom, the single most powerful and lasting seed of change!

These videos, just like his paintings, remind us that redemption is possible and true artistic expressions are the fruits of much self-sacrifice.

"Through creative freedom we find comfort and on occasion even splendor."

James e. Woody 1999
